WHAT WE DO

We craft healing spaces for children battling severe medical conditions. Harnessing the power of color, texture, sound, and light, we create environments that ease discomfort and nurture the spirits of those who need it most, making their challenging journeys a little brighter.

ABOUT

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to create healing environments for children affected by serious medical conditions within our local communities.

We design healing spaces for children where they can feel safe and supported during their journey. We work closely with families, healthcare providers, and community members to bring healing spaces to life. Join us in our mission to make a difference in the lives of children and families in need.

LATEST ROOM PROJECTS

There may be no better way to communicate what we do than through images. Every room project is unique and special to us.

Refer a Child

REFER A CHILD

Referrals are closed until further notice due to the overwhelming number of referrals received this year. Once we are caught up on room projects that have already been approved, we will re-open referrals.

In the meantime, please donate, sponsor a room, or hold a fundraiser to ensure more kids can receive their healing spaces this year!

ABOUT US

Laurie Abess_edited.jpg

Laurie Abess

Linda Salomons

A Room to Heal is the “brainchild’ of two local mothers, Laurie Abess and Linda Salomons, who wanted to make a difference in the Binghamton, NY area. Both women felt passionate about the need for children, who are affected by serious medical challenges, to have a calming, peaceful, and uplifting environment in order to heal. Their passion led them to create A Room to Heal.

A kick-off event was held in December 2005, a fundraising luncheon to share the idea that would become A Room to Heal. Over 40 people attended, and from that luncheon, a board was created. In 2006, A Room to Heal became incorporated and obtained its 501(c)3 non-profit status. As of 2023, we have completed over 130 healing spaces for children.
